Efterklang Piramida Rar4/18/2021
But dont get me started on the ideas I have for potential Efterklang music videos, because I could talk about that all day Efterklang were then fortunate enough to perform with the Danish National Orchestra live on many occasions after achieving some relatively noteworthy success for their releases. It is far and away the best album of its kind this year, far eclipsing the up its own tail pipe Sigur Ros LP.Apparently they relocated to a small town just outside of the North Pole and painstakingly pieced this together. This is potentially an absolute masterpiece, but I guess one needs to get some distance from it, perhaps a year or so, then re-asses.
The likes of Royksopp and Air, god love em, have not and could not hope to even scrape the feet of something this monumentally great in terms of beautiful, ethereal and deep soundscapes. Stunning. Published. When you hear their songs in commercials, you dont even think about how theyre selling out or catering to the mainstream, but instead you just feel genuinely happy for the attention the band is getting. For me, that band is Efterklang, a seven piece ensemble from Denmark who have spent the last few years gracing us with some of the most stunning and unique post-rock inspired music imaginable. Their debut EP entitled Springer is quite possibly the best Danish EP ever made, and I dont mean that lightly. But Springer was only a taste of what was to come for these geniuses. Their first full length, Tripper, provided us with a more refined mixture of delicate and wistful post-rock sensibilities combined with intimate chamber pop and glitchy electronics. Its such a swirling and beautiful release full of ethereal vocals and yearning string arrangements; its simultaneously engaging and hypnagogic. In many ways, Efterklang were here the first post-rock band to truly master a fine balance between electronic and more organic, orchestral like tones. Sure there were bands like Fridge, Tortoise, and Radian who made sooner combined electronic instrumentation with post-rock sensibility, but none did it as masterfully and effortlessly as Efterklang and as far as Im concerned, even now few bands come as close. But of course, the band evolved even further on 2007s Parades. While Tripper is indeed phenomenal, Parades is even more amazing in my opinion. Largely because it seems more mature in the composition and arrangements. The album is overflowing with rich and enthralling textures, epic song structures, and a myriad of instrumentation. Parades marked a departure from the more electronic based material of their previous release opting instead to utilize more horns, strings, acoustic percussion, and so forth. Of course it still retains a uniquely electronic edge, but its also more dreamy and developed. Essentially, I listened to Parades so many times in my life that I can relate it to a bunch of experiences. When you can do that with an album, you know it is a masterpiece. Under the Giant Trees also came out in 2007 and to me, really went along well with Parades. In fact, it eventually was included by default with future reissues of Parades. At any rate, this EP was a bit more melancholic and depressing, but in some ways, more beautiful in terms of cinematic quality. On the track Jojo for instance, I often picture some angelic scene of ascension taking place.
